The dreaded notification arrived from school, “This year, your classroom is nut free.” Immediately I began fretting, How am I going to feed my kid, remotely, for 100 or more days without our go-to snacks! After much complaining, internet searching, and recipe trials; I have found the answer, I will figure it out one snack at a time.
My child is extremely particular as well as sensitive to low blood sugar so my options feel constricting, but I have my first win! And here it is: Nut-Free Double Chocolate Snack Bites.

- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup oats
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons mini-chocolate chips
Steps
1
Collect all necessary ingredients along with a bowl & a strong spoon or spatula.
2
Mix the tahini, maple syrup, and vanilla into a thick paste.
3
Add the cocoa powder & mini chocolate chips. Mix until fully incorporated.
4
Thoroughly stir in the oats, taste, and assess. If it’s too dry then add more tahini or maple syrup depending on if you want it to be sweeter or simply less crumbly. If it’s too wet, add in oats or cocoa powder depending on taste preference.

Final formation time, pick up about a tablespoon of the mixture & have fun forming a ball. Roll it around to pack it tight. Set it down & watch it. If it holds its shape, then roll out the rest of the batter. If it begins to droop, add in a bit more oats or cocoa powder before forming all of the snack bites. Chill for 30 minutes & then eat it up!
